2009 Coaches
Coach Sam Gelberger has been a part of the Dolphins program since 1991. Over her 14 years of competing, she only missed one swim meet to play high school water polo. Growing up, she competed on both the Nova and Nadadores swim teams. She lettered in swimming at El Toro High School as a freshmen. Among her other various achievements in high school and college swimming are two top 8 records at Golden West College, as well as earning 8th in the Nation for the 50 yard breastroke and 12th in the 100 yard breastroke.
Hey Dolphins, its Coach Catherine and this is my 8th year with the team and my 3rd year coaching. I was El Toro's J.V. captain for water polo this year and I am currently on the varsity swim team at El Toro. I have completed my Girl Scout Silver award and have done countless hours of community service, along with CPR and First Aid training. I look forward to achieving my Girl Scout Gold Award, and completing my requirements to become a U.S.A. certified swim coach.
LET’S GO DOLPHINS!!!Hello everyone, my name is Claire Aguilar. This will be my first year coaching and my 7th year on the team. I swim varsity for El Toro High School in the spring, and play water polo in the winter. I am currently in Girl Scouts, and I have completed my Silver and Bronze Award. For the Silver Award, I was required to do 40 hours of community service, so I volunteered those 40 hours to coach a couple Dolphin swimmers. I'm also a Dolphin record holder. I know I’ll have a great time with the kids. Go Dolphins!! Let’s all have fun and swim smart!
Hi, my name is Craig Burnett. I am 16 years old and joined the Dolphin team in 1998. This is my 12th Dolphin season and my first season as an assistant coach to the Dolphins. I spent 2 years on NOVA club swimming and am currently at the Junior Varsity level on the Swimming and Water Polo teams. I am going into my junior year at El Toro. I like to consider myself as a perfectionist, that's why I think I'll make a great coach. I can't wait to get started with another great Dolphin season!
Hi everyone and welcome back! My name is Miles Craig. I have been part of the Dolphins for 11 years and this is my 3rd year as assistant coach. I am graduating from El Toro High School this June and have been a participant on both the ETHS water polo and swim teams. My favorite race is backstroke although this year I have excelled in the 200 IM. I am a huge fan of all sports and also play soccer. Many coaches have helped me succeed and enjoy sports and my hope is to do the same for the Dolphin swimmers. I will be attending Cal Poly Pomona next year in the mechanical engineering program.
I am Melissa DiGregorio, and I started swimming on the Dolphins Swim Team when I was ten years old. I coached Dolphins last year and really enjoyed it. I swam and played water polo at Saddleback for two years and then transferred to Concordia. I played water polo and swam with Coach Sam and Coach Tanner at Concordia the past two years. I am graduating this year from Concordia University in Psychology, and I am looking forward to coaching the Dolphins Swim Team this summer.
My name is Breana Gelberger, ‘Bree’ is my nickname. I have been with the Dolphin Swim Team for 11 seasons and I love it! I am a sophomore at El Toro High School, where I play water polo and swim. I love swimming and this is my first year as a Junior Coach for the Dolphins. I can’t wait to help coach all our swimmers this season and work with my sister Head Coach Sam.
Hi, my name is Kevin McKenna. This is my seventeenth summer with the Dolphins, and my sixth season as an assistant coach. I started swimming for the Dolphins in 1993 when I was 5 years old and aged out in 2006. I graduated from El Toro High School in 2006, where I swam and played water polo. I am currently finishing my third year at Columbia University where I am studying history. When I graduate from college next year, I plan to either pursue graduate school in history or teach. I'm looking forward to another great season! Go Dolphins!
My name is Tanner Remai. This is my first year coaching with Dolphins. I have been involved with the Dolphins Winter/Spring Program since January and I am looking forward to the Dolphin Summer Program. I am going to be a senior at Concordia University, where I play water polo and swim. This year, I received the honor of All-American at our national championships. I look forward to a great summer with all of you.
Hi, my name is Chelsea Riley. I have been involved with the Dolphins for about 12 years now, and this will be my fourth year coaching. Wahoo! I will be a junior at Arizona State University next year and I am working towards a Biology major. I am so excited to coach again and can't wait to be a part of this great team again. I am ready for a very successful summer season...GO DOLPHINS!!!
Hi, my name is Miles Sonnenfeld. I am returning to coach after being in San Diego for three years. I am currently going to school at San Diego State University and studying Criminal Justice. My goals right now are to graduate and become a police officer. In the future I hope to either excel as an officer or potentially get my law degree. I have been a swimmer my whole life starting at age 4 on the sharks swim team (we used to race against them). My favorite strokes are backstroke and butterfly. Now I am racing triathlons for my school and will hopefully be able to race in the 2010 Utah Ironman. I am really excited to be coaching with the Dolphins once again and look forward to watching you all grow as swimmers!
